A Randomized Controlled Trial to Compare the Efficacy of Single Mega Dose Vitamin D Therapy with Standard Daily Dose Vitamin D Therapy in Vitamin D Deficient Critically Ill Children

Introduction: The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency has been reported to be very high (up 50%) in criticallyill children admitted Paediatric ICU, and associated with increased mortality,increased length ICU hospital stay. But the impact supplementation thesechildren on clinical outcome is not clear.Study Objectives: Primary Objective: To compare efficacy single mega dose therapy withstandard daily deficient critically ill children.Secondary assess a tertiary carecentre.Methodology: A study population 50 meeting inclusion criteria were enrolled our study. All thesubjects subjected detailed history examination. Vitamin levelswere sent at admission (< 20ng/dl) taken as subjects andrandomized into two groups. One group received therapy, second groupreceived standard therapy. These followed up until their stayor death. was compared among both groups terms PaediatricICU stay mortality.Results: mean receiving therapywas 5.04 days 3.56 standard-dose (p-value 0.337),suggesting no significant difference groups.There mortality these subjects. groupwas 55.6%.Conclusion: Supplementation hasno advantage mortality.
